Farewell Alexandra

In February 2023 we bade farewell to our first Cadet Engineer Alexandra Gehrke as she returned to the University of Queensland for her final year of study.

Thank you Alexandra for sharing the last few months with us - we hope you've learned as much as we have from the experience, and we're looking forward to continuing our Cadet Engineer program in the years to come.

Welcome Alexandra Gehrke

This Christmas break Dahms Technik is excited to welcome our very first Cadet, Alexandra Gehrke. Alexandra joins Nicole in our growing Spring Hill Mechanical Engineering Team and we hope to give her a good taste of the variety and challenge that engineering practice offers.

We met Alexandra through The University of Queensland EAIT Faculty Industry Mentoring Program, a program linking current UQ students with established alumni and industry professionals. If you're interested in the program, you'll find more information on the EAIT Faculty webpage.

Mentoring and is a strong part of who we are as a business, and we’re pleased to begin our Cadet program with Alexandra this Christmas break.

Welcome to the team Alexandra!

On the Move in 2022

In August 2022 Dahms Technik farewelled our first home in Brendale and moved into our new more central Spring Hill office in Suite 27, 477 Boundary Street, Spring Hill, on the ground floor of The Johnson Hotel.

We’re very excited about the move and the opportunity it brings to engage with more of the Engineering Community.

North Brisbane Serviced Offices first welcomed us in December 2019 and has seen countless hours of designing, modelling, writing, meetings, discussions, and even grade 2 remote learning since then.

Dahms Technik offers many thanks to Julie, Greg, Kristy, Trish, Joe and Yolanda and all our friends at North Brisbane Serviced Offices. Thank you for being a welcoming home for us from day one you made this Engineer’s transition into business so much easier.

Welcome Nicole Coles

Welcome to Dahms Technik Nicole Coles!

Nicole joins the growing Mechanical Engineering team in our new Spring Hill office, and we're excited by the capability, experience, and enthusiasm she brings.

If you're interested in working with Nicole, please keep an eye out for the new Careers page coming to our website www.dahmstechnik.com in 2023.

Carbon Neutral Certified

Dahms Technik is very pleased to announce that we have achieved one of our original business goals by receiving Carbon Neutral Organisation certification through the Australian Government’s Climate Active program in March this year.

Travel is an unavoidable part of our business as our clients and their machines are spread out around the country. Our carbon offsets for travel and our other business activities assist Greenfleet with its Australian reforestation and biodiversity projects, and they in turn support international carbon offset projects.

Many thanks are due to Lauren Jensen at Pangolin Associates for guiding us through the process for the first time. We thoroughly recommend Lauren and Pangolin Associates if you are at all interested in the Australian Government’s Climate Active program, and we’re looking forward to working with them again in the many years to come.

Climate Active

One thing we promised ourselves when we launched Dahms Technik in 2019 was that the Company would be a vehicle through which we can do real practical good in areas that are important to us - in Engineering and the Community.

We took the first step down the road to becoming a carbon neutral company this week by donating to Australian Organisation Greenfleet. It is important to us that we be a carbon neutral company from our very first year of operation and achieve it in a way that provides clear benefits in the regions where we operate. We minimise our environmental footprint as much as possible by using technology to provide our services remotely and establishing our office in our local community not the distant Brisbane CBD. We will offset the emissions that we cannot eliminate through carbon offset credits with Greenfleet and support their reforestation work in Australia.

Greenfleet is a leading not-for-profit environmental organisation committed to protecting our climate by restoring Australia’s forests. Greenfleet plants native bio-diverse forests to capture carbon emissions and help fight the impacts of climate change.

We owe a big thank you to Lauren Jensen at Pangolin Associates for patiently taking us through the whole process, and we’re looking forward to completing the journey at the end of the year with carbon neutral accreditation through the Australian Federal Government’s Climate Active Program.

If you’re looking for more information on the work Greenfleet does and the Australian Government’s Climate Active Program you’ll find plenty here www.greenfleet.com.au and here www.climateactive.org.au.

Cheers for now

Matthew

A Beginning

I’ve never really thought of myself as a blogger, but I’ve always enjoyed the telling of a good story, so I’ve decided to embrace the opportunity and put some words to the beginning of our story.

I’m Matthew, and in December last year I followed a long term dream and started my own engineering company. From that time on we’ve been working towards something we truly believe in and it’s made a great deal of difference to our lives. And just because starting your own business wasn’t a big enough challenge it seems we also decided to time our launch with a global pandemic.

Thanks to our private space at NBSO in Brendale and support from our valued clients and friends we’ve been able to continue operation with limited day to day interruption, though client meetings are of the virtual type at the moment, and site inspections are of course in hibernation. We’ve even extended our industrial machines engineering offering to include grade 2 tutoring for our dedicated class of one - though I think both the tutor and the student hope school returns soon.

Our goal in business is to practice the engineering expertise that we genuinely enjoy, in a way that best benefits our clients and friends in the bulk materials handling and mining industries, our community, and the land.

All the best to you and yours - together we’ll see the current Coronavirus challenge through and come out the other side stronger and more connected.
